The origin of pearls fascinated our forebears. Ancients from the Middle East believed that pearls were teardrops fallen from heaven.
Pearls have long been associated with purity, humility and innocence.

As such, pearls were traditionally given as a wedding gift.
Pearl are organic gems that grow inside the tissue of a living saltwater or freshwater mollusk,
either an oyster or a mussel.
Natural pearls form when the mollusk secretes a substance called nacre around
an irritant such as a piece of sand or a parasite that has invaded its shell.
Akoya cultured pearls produced in Japan and China are a type of saltwater cultured pearls,
they can have white, cream, pink color.
Pearls of the South Seas. Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines are the main sources of these saltwater cultured pearls. South Sea cultured pearls can be white, silver or golden in color, depending on the type of oyster.
Their large size and thick nacre, due to a long growing period, as well as limited critical growing conditions,
are all factors that contribute to their value.
Tahitian pearls
Cultivated mainly around the islands of French Polynesia, the best known of these is Tahiti.
These saltwater pearls, sometimes called black pearls, come in a wide range of colors,
gray, black, brown, tinged, and blue, green, purple, or pink.
Freshwater pearls
Freshwater pearls are the most commonly produced pearls, this is due to their remarkable range of sizes, shapes and colors, as well as their commercial availability at lower prices. They are usually grown in freshwater lakes and ponds, often with many cultured pearls in an oyster, they can also be dyed.
