TRAUMART | Anton Sokolov
Anton Sokolov was born in 1983, in Kharkiv, Ukraine, officially the USSR at that time, as the state of Ukraine did not yet exist.
I’m a former dentist and a future jeweler,” is how Anton has been introducing himself lately, with 15 years of private practice behind him, Anton had almost come to terms with the fact that his childhood dream of becoming a jeweler, like his father, would remain just that a dream.
His attempts to immerse himself in the enchanting world of jewelry making convinced him that it was impossible to balance his primary job with such a demanding hobby. He had to choose one path, but letting go of a stable, albeit unfulfilling, job with a good income wasn’t easy.
Then the war in Ukraine changed everything.
During his volunteer work, Anton was caught in a missile attack in the center of his city. He was injured, and it was a miracle the doctors managed to save his leg. However, it soon became clear that another operation would be necessary, preferably abroad. Anton was reluctant to leave Ukraine, even for his own health, but his family’s safety became the deciding factor.
As he prepared to leave, he packed only the bare essentials but made sure to take his jewelry tools and the bullet casings he had collected from the streets of his city. Thus, in July 2022, Anton and his family found themselves in Munich, Germany.
It was there that the concept for his first jewelry brand, SUDU Jewel, was born—creating pieces from bullet casings, imbuing each one with deep meaning, and assigning it the name and number of the day of the war in which it was made.
Despite the tragic circumstances, the venture was a success. Hundreds of positive reviews, initial sales, and even a feature in a European magazine showed that the idea resonated with many.
In January 2023, Anton and his family moved to a small town in Saxony. In one of the rooms of their rented apartment, he set up his first workshop. After a six-month break due to the move, he was able to return to his craft.
In January 2024, his wife decided to return to Ukraine, while Anton chose to move to Berlin.
This once again led to a long and difficult pause in his work. Alone in Berlin, with no money, no place to stay, it was one of the hardest periods of his life.
Today, Anton rents a space in a workshop, has found a place to live, and thanks to the help of a kind and generous person, he has returned to creating jewelry—this time under the new name, TRAUMART.
“I’m still standing and nothing else matters!”
All Jewels are made with materials collected in Ukraine during the war, gun shell casings, missile fragments, brass, glasses and silver. All pieces are signed with the number of the day of war.
